About Therapy

There are many approaches to psychotherapy—also known as talk therapy. Psychoanalysis and psychodynamic therapy are one approach. At NYCCSW we use this approach because of its potential for deeper growth and lasting changes. Psychoanalysis understands that our feelings, motives, and decisions are powerfully influenced by our past experiences. These experiences greatly shape us and contribute to our way of being in the present. Understanding the connections between past experiences and the challenges we may be encountering now can lead to resolving emotional difficulties and to meaningful change for the better.

Here are some ways therapy can help:

  • Enhance overall well-being and potential

  • Develop inner strength

  • Discover new insights

  • Increase understanding about events in your life

  • Resolve internal conflicts

  • Expand self-awareness

  • Learn about unconscious thoughts and behaviors

  • Improve relationships

  • Gain a sense of control over your own well-being

  • Create more healthy communication
