Training

The Psychoanalytic Training Institute of the New York Counseling and Guidance Service (NYCGS) is a non-profit educational facility providing psychoanalytic training to graduate and post graduate licensed mental health professionals in a warm, collegial environment. Established in 1978, the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of the NYCGS has a respected history of providing its students with a solid foundation in psychodynamic psychoanalytic theory that is thoroughly integrated with clinical practice.

Our faculty are experienced instructors fueled by a keen interest in teaching our students theory and technique. Students are supervised by skillful, seasoned clinicians who provide attentive and communicative oversight.  The relationships between our faculty, supervisors and students foster an atmosphere of mentoring, learning and support.

Through our two-year certificate program in psychoanalysis, students are challenged to grow and develop themselves professionally and personally. Our graduates become competent therapists who help to empower their clients through insight and greater awareness. 

The Psychoanalytic Training Institute of the NYCGS is attached to our clinic, The New York Counseling and CSW, P.C. (NYCCSW), which was first established in 1971 as The New York Counseling and Guidance Service. 

The Psychoanalytic Training Institute of the New York Counseling and Guidance Service (NYCGS) has an Absolute Charter from the Board of Regents of the New York State Department of Education.

Candidates are accepted from an approved MSW graduate program and complete their first year of institute training as a second year MSW field interns. For more information contact info@nyccsw.org.
